Today Zac and I were invited to a family get together at Sato-san's house. I love my Japanese grandmother; she is funny and always takes care of Zac and I. Everyone was there, and we got to see Shoji! He is such a nice guy and always fun to talk to! New Year's Day is similiar to Christmas in America. It is a big deal and is usually spent with family. There are lots of traditional foods and fellowship. Of course Zac and I miss our family, friends, and most of all our dog children back in the USA, but we are very blessed to have great company here on the other side of the world. This will be an interesting year for us, and we hope to enjoy Japan and it's wonderful people everyday and to the fullest. Now time to rest.... Today, on New Year's Eve, Zac and I tried to make our first sushi. Thanks to the cookbook Miyoko got us, and some pointers, our philly rolls turned out great! What's next on the menu??? Last Monday my friend Miyoko and I traveled a long long way with Chi and Lisa to a Mt. Fuji farm. It was a lot of fun, despite the fact clouds covered Fuji-San for most of the day. It was a great time, especially for little Chi and Lisa! I think Chi was more intrigued by the old tractor than any of the farm animals! We also got to milk a cow! It was my first time, and I can't believe I did it in Japan! Haha! It was really neat! I can't wait to get back to America and have a dairy cow of our own! On the way home, it was dark and we were all extremely tired and smelt of ponies and sheep. I was drifting off to sleep in the car, when the reality of where I actually am set in. Here I am; riding home with my new best friend and her kids, in JAPAN. Where am I and HOW did I get here? I sure am happy to have already met such caring friends, and it felt nice to realize how truly lucky and blessed I am! |
