Well, I finally landed in Tokyo after about 12.5 hours in the air. So tired, so frazzled, will post more later. One more flight to Nagoya soon, then I will see my puff! ....if he is there to meet me?
Surfing the internet tonight, and I happened upon these 5 short documentaries about a Japanese 4th grade classroom. I was amazed by the successful teaching techniques of the 57 year old teacher. Along with a curriculum of Japanese characters, arithmetic, social studies, and science, the teacher fosters a strong sense of community. He allows the class to grow together as a collective family and uses difficult issues to bring everyone together.
The teacher deals with students losing family members, bullying, fair discipline, and empathy. I would recommend taking time to watch all 5 parts. American classrooms could greatly benefit from this teacher, and his one goal for the class: be happy. Children Full of Life I had a burst of creativity today and finished 4 sketches. My baby boy Atlas, my sweet weenie Sandy, a cow (not pictured), and a truck...per my dad's relentless requests. When the urge to draw shows itself, it is best to take advantage of the momentum. Well said, BC now I'm sick of drawing, at least until tomorrow.
![]() One down, one to go. Zac left for Japan yesterday morning around 6:20 am, and has safely landed in Hamamatsu, Japan this morning, almost 24 hours later. I already miss him, but know I will soon join him. Even though I am staying with my family, I feel alone without Zac. I will be happy when we are reunited, thousands of miles away.
